Lauren Aitken

Lauren Aitken is a contemporary ceramic artist. She was born and raised in Accord, in Upstate New York and earned her B.F.A. in Ceramics this spring and is finishing up her B.S. in Art Education this Fall from The State University of New York at New Paltz. Her work ranges from functional pottery, to tiles, and installation art.
Her recent work has examined the wheel as a tool in the creation of her stacked sculptural forms. Outside influences of architecture and color aid to create distinctive lines and patterns that give an illusion of “the object within the object.” Taking photographs of her surroundings while she travels, she uses these documents as reference in understanding form and pattern. In her work she creates a dialogue or story between her objects, a story that has to do with the dialectic of connection and disconnection and the presence and absence in relationships.
Her work has been included in exhibitions that include Domestic Architectonics Thesis Exhibition at the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art, The Really Raw and Notkin Inch exhibitions at the East End Gallery in New Paltz, NY, Permission (taken for) Granted at NoSpace Gallery in Rosendale New York, and the Whats Good With Wood exhibition in the Smiley Student Art Gallery.

Kirsten Olson

Kirsten Olson was born in 1982 and grew up in Newburgh, New York. She was raised in a historical home surrounded by antiquities. The home had a stream that ran along the boarder of the property where Kirsten spent much of her youth playing.
Kirsten always had a strong interest in art, her passion for ceramics started when she entered the three-year ceramics program offered at her high school, Newburgh Free Academy.
A strong interest in ceramics lead her to attend Alfred University’s New York State School of Ceramics for her undergraduate studies. While at Alfred Kirsten studied mainly ceramics but also explored metalsmithing, stonework, and neon and glass art. During the summer of her junior year Kirsten did an internship in Jonathan Kaplan’s Ceramic Design Group.
Currently she is teaching art in Wappingers Central School District and finishing up a Masters in Studio Art from SUNY New Paltz. Kirsten has been developing a body of interactive ceramic work that floats in water.
Recently Kirsten work has been in group shows at G.A.S. Visual Arts and Performing Space and Barrett Clay Works.
